Oxford! The Oxford! The "city of dreaming spires"! Harry Potter! Unicorns pooing rainbow! Well, I haven't seen them really, but they are there! Somewhere! I am going to tell you some tips what to see and you can bet that these places are almost as beautiful as the rainbow unicorns! :)
Oxford is known worldwide as the home of the University of Oxford the oldest university in the English- Speaking countries and world's second oldest a most prestigious university. After disputes between students and Oxford townsfolk in 1209, some academics fled northeast to Cambridge where they established what became the University od Cambridge. The two "ancient universities" are frequently jointly referred to as "Oxbridge". The Oxford university was established in 11. century and is made of 38 colleges, which we can find all over the city centre. Each building is phenomenal! You can feel the history breathing on you and there is a real danger of swallowing a fly or hurting your knee. It's because of walking around with your head risen up high and your mouth open! You can easily imagine yourselves sitting on a bench holding a book or rushing around trying to get to your lecture on time. Yes! I would actually love studying here! Trust me I am a doctor, Oxford has this influence!
Další otázka, která mě napadla byla "Safra, kolik si musím zaplatit, abych se sem dostala!" Tak zaprvé, studentům není dovoleno hlásit se zároveň na Cambridge a Oxford university. Prý, aby si uspořádali preference :D Škola přijímá na základě školních výsledků, referencích školy a u některých studijních programů i na základě vstupního testu. Poté jsou studenti pozváni na pohovor a mimoevropští mohou absolvovat pohovor přes internet. Pff, o financích jsem se dozvěděla jen toliko, že nabídka stipendií je opravdu obrovská, mnohem větší než u ostatních univerzit.
Hlavním typem výuky jsou konzultace, kde jeden až čtyři studenti konzultují svou celotýdenní práci, většinou esej nebo úlohu a jen jako doplnění mají přednášky, kurzy a semináře. Malinko jiný styl výuky než u nás, což?! :D Na této univerzitě studovalo nespočet známých osobností jako Jane Austen, Stephen Hawking, Lewis Carroll, Oscar Wilde nebo J. R. R. Tolkien! (A teď si pro zajímavost zkuste pro sebe říct aspoň dvě známá díla každého z nich :D )
Another my question was " How much do I have to pay to get there!". Firstly, to allow a more personalised judgement of students, who might otherwise apply for both, applicants are not permitted to apply to both Oxford and Cambridge in the same year. Shortlisting is based on achieved and predicted exam results, school references, and, in some subjects, written admission tests or candidate-submitted written work. The colleges then invite shortlisted candidates for interview, where they are provided with food and accommodation. Students from outside Europe can be interviewed remotely, for example, over the Internet. Pff, in terms of finances, I discovered just that there is a wide range of scholarships, wider that at other universities.
Teaching is centred on the tutorial, where 1–4 students spend an hour with an academic discussing their week's work, usually an essay or problem sheet. Several famous people studied at this university, for example Jane Austen, Stephen Hawking, Lewis Carroll, Oscar Wilde nebo J. R. R. Tolkien! (Well, just out of curiosity, try to come up with at least two book titles of each author :D )
Balliol College. One of the oldest ones. When we were passing around, there was a training fire alarm and you could have seen students running out of the building in their home trousers, panties, bare foot and those who were lucky were caught in a shower. They were also lucky that it was such a warm weather this day, 15 degrees :D

Bodley's library at Radcliff's Square patří k nejstarším knihovnám v Evropě a je to hlavní knihovna Oxford university. V dnešní době má knihovna 11 milionů knih!
Boodley's library is one of the oldest libraries in Europe and the main library of Oxford University. Nowadays, 11 million books can be found in this library.
A konečně Christ Church College! Pro všechny milovníky Harryho Pottera. Velká síň! Tato místnost je stále používána jako jídelna pro studenty! Jako pardon, ale tohle už je trochu moc na moji představivost a nelze na to říct nic víc než WOW! Kromě Harryho se zde natáčela i Pullmanova Northern Lights a celá kolej byla částečně inspirací pro Alenku v Říši divů :)
And finaly Christ Church College. For Harry Potter's lovers! The Great hall! This hall is still used as a dining room for students! Well, this is definitely too much for my imagination and there is nothing left to say than a big WOW! Besides Harry also Pullman's Northern Lights was filmed here and whole college was an inspiration for Alice in Wonderland :)
